WYSA "REC" Program

WYSA Recreational "REC" Soccer Program - Spring 2019

Our Recreational program is open to players entering Kindergarten thru 6th grade who just enjoy the game. At the recreational level everyone plays equally, and emphasis is placed on learning basic skills and nurturing the love of the game and to have fun. This program has two seasons, fall and spring. Spring only registration will open in March.

In this program we hope to:

  • Provide a positive environment for children entering grades K - 6th to learn the game of soccer
  • Promote health, exercise and good character through soccer
  • Focus on player development that allows each player to reach his or her desired potential
  • Provide financial assistance if needed, so no child is unable to participate due to financial concerns

The fall or spring registration period runs from March 4th through March 29th. Late fees ($15.00) apply if registered after March 29th. After the registration period, players will be added if space is available. Please register early to ensure your spot.

How are teams formed?

Grades K-4 are gender specific. WYSA Rec committee and coaches attempt to form teams based on buddy requests (on registration form) for grades K-2. In older age divisions (grades 3-6), teams may be combined, or coed based upon the number of registered players. Teams will be posted on the website the week of April 8th.

Teams are coached by volunteers from the community, most often parents of the players. We are always in need of more coaches, please consider volunteering to be a coach. The association has many resources to help you be a successful coach. We attempt to match experienced coaches with new coaches and provide lesson plans for the coaches to utilize. There will be a coaches meeting prior to the start of the season. (Date to be determined).

Shin guards, socks to cover the shin guards, a soccer ball, and appropriate shoes are required. Soccer cleats are not required for K-2nd grade players - comfortable athletic shoes will suffice. Several used cleats are available at the ANZA clubhouse. If your child has grown out of their cleats, you are welcome to come trade them in for a larger size. Cleats will be available the first couple weeks of the season.

Soccer Ball Requirements:

K-2nd Grade - Size 3 Ball 3rd-6th Grade - Size 4 Ball

Team Shirt

Each participant will receive a team t-shirt as part of their registration fee. If your child played in the 2018 fall season, they will need to wear the shirt they received in the fall, they WILL NOT receive another shirt in the spring. For brand new players (just registered for spring) shirts will be handed out by the coach the first week of the season. If your child played in the fall and has lost or grown out of their shirt, a new one can be purchased for $10, please email director@watertownsoccer.com for details.
